If you read my blog or follow me on twitter, you know how much I love photography. You also know that I was campaigning HARD for a full frame camera for my birthday.

I told everyone and anyone about that camera. What I wanted, and why I needed it. I wanted a full Frame camera because I had outgrown my faithful Canon Rebel T3.  And because full frame is the best. Full frame was the logical next step.

But when doubt starts to creep in, it’s best to listen.

See sometimes, it helps to sit down and have a realistic talk with your self. And I said: Self, why do you want a full frame camera? Low light capabilities came the answer. But self, I asked, do you have a problem with that now? With your Canon Rebel T3, do you have any glaring problems with low light? No. Have you learned how to get around it?  Yes. Have you learned how to work with it? Yes…….

Now, when I sit down and have these talks with myself, I always have to be honest. SO I asked, self, why do you REALLY want this camera? And the answer was: because everyone else has it and says it’s great.  Peer pressure, it seems,  is not restricted to teenagers.

So basically, I was trying to keep up with the photography Joneses.

Once I really really realized that that was the real reason that I wanted that camera,  I took the 6D out of my cart and marinated. For a week.

In steps CDub. He came and offered to buy the camera that I originally wanted. The Canon 7D.  I wanted it for the 19 point all cross type AF sensors. I wanted it for the 18 mega pixels.  I wanted it for the 1080p video. I wanted it for the Kelvin white balance. I wanted it for the expanded ISO.  I wanted it for all of its bells and whistles.  I’ve  wanted it since last summer.  But I let what others SAID I should want get in the way.

It was waiting for me when i got home Friday evening.

And I love it.

Sorry all of you non photographers had to wade through that mumbo jumbo, but the point is this: I am a photographer. And hell, I think I’m on my way to being a good one with or without a full frame camera. I’m not gonna lie and say I don’t want one.  Sure it would make my life just a tad bit easier,  But like a friend said: I would have the same issues WITH a full frame camera that I would have had without. Because good photography is not about a great camera. Sure, it helps. But baby, I have seen some great photos with crop cameras and terrible ones with full frame.  Good photography is about who is behind the camera. And I aim to prove that with my new 7D( who i’ve named Marsha. Just because).

Oh and P.P.S: Yes, the photos in this post were taken with my 7D, in very low restaurant light. I rest my case……
