Cdub is anitphoto. But it’s easier to get him to take one if I just use my iPhone. So I took the chance and only used my iPhone on Father’s Day. A little iphoneography experiment if you will…..
Father’s Day was Sunday and CDub had a grand time. Starting Saturday. He played golf ALL DAY. Sunday morning, he woke up to breakfast in bed.
At lunch time, we headed out to Houston’s. My favorite restaurant, and Cub’s too. We hadn’t been with Pookah in tow since he was about one. When he was still eating baby food. So, after having learned the hard way about eating out. I asked a LOT of questions before ANYTHING came to the table. Luckily for us, we had an awesome waitress who listened to my concerns and then interrogated the kitchen until we found out everything we could about how the meals were prepared. Did you know that the Hawaiian Steak at Houston’s is marinated in soy sauce? And soy sauce has wheat in it? It would have never occurred to me to think about the marinade. But it occurred to my waitress. So basically, they made Pookah a meal from scratch. So Pookah’ s meal came, completely gluten/wheat free. She got a humongous tip for her efforts. We will be back.
I got CDub to sit for these photos. Once. Only once. I had to beg. So sad.
After lunch, we headed over to Lenox Mall to get CDub the rest of his father’s day gift. He wanted shoes. Just shoes. But those shoes….why are good shoes so expensive????
After naptime, we headed out to the park where Pookah and Cdub played baseball, raced, and just got sweaty and hot. Hell, they even got me to do cartwheels and flips and to join in the races.
Afterwards, we found our way to Murellis’ a local ice cream shop. Fun times.
We all collapsed when we got home. Bathtime, bed. It was a good day.

You know, since we’ve moved here, and the spring has come, every week it seems, there are new flowers popping up all over the yard. And me, being the city girl that I am, don’t know what any of them are. But they sure are pretty….
Ps. I found out these were Gardenias after I posted a photo on Facebook for my mom. They do smell so good!
My Dearest Baby,
I’m sorry. Mommy failed you on Saturday. It is my duty to protect you, to keep you safe. I failed. You were having such a wonderful day! We started of course with the strawberry patch that morning. And you were excited that evening because we were on our way to a party that where you would see your friends, Micah and Miles. And you were having a ball! Until I didn’t think and gave you a few party meatballs. Forgetting, while talking and catching up with old friends, that some meatballs use wheat as a filler. And you my precious, are allergic to wheat. It wasn’t until you started coughing and told me that you didn’t feel so well that I knew. Luckily, we were surrounded by a house full of mothers who are also nurses who all quickly went into crisis mode to correct my mistake. I’m sorry I had to give you the dreaded epi pen. And I’m sorry that you had to ride in the ambulance to the hospital.
When finally, the night was over and we arrived home exhausted, I held you while you went to sleep. Just that once, because you are a big boy and don’t need me to anymore. But that night, I needed it. As you were drifting off to sleep, I said, Mommy is so sorry I gave you the meatballs and that you got sick. You lay your hand on my cheek and said: that’s OK Mommy, I’m alright.
And I cried. I cried because of the stress of the day, I cried because you were alright, and I cried because you still loved me the same, in spite of my wrongs.

We finally got to go strawberry picking on Saturday morning. We got there bright and early, and almost had the whole farm to ourselves…
He really enjoyed himself. And had lots of fun picking the strawberries. My only problem is, what on earth am I going to do with all of these strawberrries?????
